Côte d’Ivoire has one of the highest prevalence rates of HIV infection in West Africa, with the greatest geographic distribution being amongst women aged 30 to 34 years. HIV infection in Africa spreads readily along the trucking routes, and Abidjan is both a major port and by-way. With ongoing support from The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, the Centre de Santé Nimatoullah has become a center of excellence for persons with HIV/AIDS, and one of the few facilities in the country with specially trained personnel for the counseling, screening and anti-retroviral treatment of persons living with HIV. We are certified participants in the National Strategic HIV/AIDS Plan; we are experienced in palliative care for the most grievously ill; and, we have the laboratory facilities required for monitoring of AIDS/HIV treatment services.
Our approach at Centre de Santé Nimatoullah has been to create a high quality health care facility in a location where many local residents can afford to pay reasonable fees, but an area also easily accessible to more indigent populations. We send outreach teams to those most at risk, and when necessary we provide transportation to our main facility.
To attract and retain patients, we offer a wide range of state of the art services at considerably less cost than other local facilities. The income generated from paying clients has been sufficient to underwrite the cost of treatment for those unable to pay.
We work in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and are an important part of their national network of community health centers. We ask for your support to enhance and maintain our health care services for those in great need.
